Susan Elan Jones MP has pledged her support for the Cancer Research UK campaign ahead of World Cancer Day on Sunday, 4 February 2018. In parliament this week, the Clwyd South MP met with research scientists, staff and volunteers from the major charity.
World Cancer Day takes place on the 4 February each year to raise awareness of the fight against cancer. It is estimated that nearly 8 million people worldwide will die of cancer this year, with the figure set to increase, if left unchecked, to over 13 million worldwide by 2030.
Following the meeting Susan Elan Jones MP said: “I pledged my support for health education to tackle obesity, a key cause of cancer. I have also written a letter to Government Brexit Secretary David Davis MP urging the Government to ensure that top-quality cancer research scientists can still work in the UK after Brexit. My letter also called for the same types of regulation for research in the UK as in the EU, and for the Government to make sure that there is at least as much money for vital scientific research after Brexit as before”.
