Susan Elan Jones MP met with Penycae Councillor, John Phillips, a representative from Wrexham Council and Arriva to discuss the bus route around the Afoneitha estate in Penycae.
The meeting was requested by the Clwyd South MP to explore options for returning the bus service after it had been discontinued due to safety concerns. A risk assessment had identified access problems caused by parking arrangements on the estate.
Following the meeting, Susan Elan Jones MP said: “Many of the residents on the Afoneitha estate are justly concerned about the discontinued service to their area. This situation will leave a number of local residents at a real disadvantage, especially the older and more vulnerable bus users. I am pleased that all the involved parties are cooperating to take the matter seriously. Progress has been achieved with the offer from Arriva’s MD Michael Morton to conduct a fresh risk assessment. This will be followed by liaison with Wrexham Council to explore solutions to improve parking on the estate”.
Councillor John Phillips added: “I would like to thank Arriva for agreeing to the meeting, which was productive with Arriva arranging for the further risk assessment along with a site visit to explore options. It may be that Arriva are unable to restore the commercial bus service, but I am grateful to them for looking into this concern again”.
