Clwyd South MP, Susan Elan Jones, is calling on the Attorney General to review and increase a 3 month driving ban given yesterday to a man who was driving at 138 miles an hour on the A5 near Corwen.
In August 2017, Pablo Maxwell, 38, of Wellington, Shropshire was caught riding a motorcycle at 138mph on a 60mph stretch of the A5. Flintshire Magistrates’ Court banned Maxwell from driving for 90 days. He was also fined £500 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £50 surcharge.
Magistrates said they were “horrified” by his speed and that they would be failing in their public duty if they allowed him to carry on driving.
Susan Elan Jones MP said: “It’s not right that someone caught driving at a staggering 138 miles an hour, as happened in this case on the A5 near Corwen, is back driving three months later. This is really dangerous behaviour so I am writing to the Attorney General to see if the sentence can be reviewed and increased. If that isn’t possible, simply because the case was tried in a Magistrates Court or for some reason, I will be calling on the Government to look again at what cases can be reviewed.”
