Susan Elan Jones MP has met with Chirk women’s pension equality campaigners, Sheila Dee and Lorraine Hughes.
The Clwyd South Labour MP, who is an active member of the newly-formed WASPI All Party Parliamentary Group, said:
“It was great to meet with Sheila and Lorraine. Sheila and Lorraine came to lobby Parliament recently and they are just two of the many local women who were born in the 1950s that I am working with to try and secure fair pensions.
“Through the campaign group WASPI, we are fighting the injustice done to women born in the 1950s (on or after 6 April 1951) regarding the changes to their state pension age.
“We all agree with pension equalisation, but not with the unfair way the changes are being implemented. It’s happening with little/no personal notice (1995/2011 Pension Acts), faster than promised (2011 Pension Act), and giving women and their families no time to make alternative plans. It’s really wrong what Sheila, Lorraine and more than 3,000 other women living in Clwyd South are facing. We’ve got a big national campaign now and a large cross-party group of MPs determined to make the Government change its mind. Any local women affected by these changes is welcome to email me on [email protected] or phone my office and I will make sure that they are put in touch with local campaigners.”
