Susan Elan Jones MP has met with Corwen businessman Tony Sutherland following the news that the town’s only ATM cash machine will stay free to use.
The Clwyd South MP is a strong supporter of free cash machines and has urged the UK Government to toughen the law to protect them.
Last summer, Susan Elan Jones MP met with the Payment Systems Regulator that regulates all free-to-use cashpoints. She won from them the assurance that no free-to-use cashpoint that was more than 1km from other cashpoints would be made to charge.
Susan Elan Jones MP said: “This assurance is great news for our area at a time when 250 free-to-use cashpoints are closing every month. I’ve constantly made the case that rural communities are different and I ‘m glad the Payment Systems Regulator had acted on what I’ve said. I think the UK Government should toughen the law on this, but if they won’t, I will continue to fight for the best possible outcome for our area.”
