A campaign by Cefn County Councillor Derek Wright and local residents has resulted in a petition being presented in Parliament by local MP Susan Elan Jones on Wednesday (8th March).
The petition called on developers Harron Homes to complete unfinished dwellings in Heol Berwyn – with the petition reading as follows:
The petition of the residents of Cefn Mawr in the constituency of Clwyd South. Declares that the petitioners believe that it is unacceptable that Harron Homes has only part finished the construction of residential dwellings in Heol Berwyn, Cefn Mawr; further declares that part finished construction sites may become magnets for anti-social behaviour and infestations of rats due to partially constructed sewers; and further that such part finished construction sites are a blight upon communities. The petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urges the Government to declare and enforce that part finished construction sites be completed, sold outright, part sold or gifted to the Local Authority or a Housing Association.
Councillor Derek Wright said: “It is high time that Harron Homes does something about their site at Heol Berwyn, I understand they want to change the design and layout of the site. If that is the case, I hope they undergo full consultation with the people living in that area on the design and listen to their views”.
Susan Elan Jones MP added: “Councillor Derek Wright’s tireless campaign on behalf of local residents has compelled Harron Homes to make the site safe and clear up overgrown weeds. In 2014, we also got Heol Berwyn re-surfaced following our repeated interventions. However, having held a local public meeting, we decided it was time to take the step of presenting a petition in Parliament to try and get the developer to do more to address the concerns we have.”
